I’m the proud owner of a reseller package from LimitlessHost.com, purpose of which is to review it from time to time. I have been receiving this privilege from 2017 during which quality of the service has consistently been tops.  The reseller package has enormous specs like 40 GB disk space, 10 TB Bandwidth with unlimited cpanel accounts. WHM and cpanel are state of the art current and up to date with all of the Softaculous scripts on offer. It also includes DDoS protection and all of the security bells and whistles that one sees with the big players like Inmotion and Siteground for a fraction of the price.

Most servers who have been around in 2017 have disappeared in time, but Limitlesshost.net is still there, offering the same top quality and above average technical setup than in 2018, if not better.  It is super reliable.  Security is tops at Limitlesshost.net for the very reason that the owner had learned everything he knew about security from the hard knocks of taking care of games servers.  Prior to starting LimitlessHost.net, the owner had done extremely well (still is) with providing free Games Servers in exchange for posts.  He had done that for a while before he had started his business and that was a fantastic learning ground for what is important for speed and security for a server.

Another reason why I have confidence in LimitlessHost’s security is the way WHM has been set up.  For example I wasn’t given automatic shell access.  I’ve just been given enough privileges to set up and run cPanel accounts.  The person who set up WHM did it for safety and security and maximum performance.

Effortless migration to new server – upgraded cPanel with Softaculous brilliantly executed!

Limitless Hosting has just upgraded its available hosting services, offering both DirectAdmin and cpanel Shared Hosting packages at affordable prices.  It also offers reseller and VPS hosting.  Hosting covers both USA and EU, depending which continent you would like to have your hosting on.

I have an excellent shared hosting account from Limitless Hosting with cpanel, and its setup is as brilliant as it was when I started out a few years ago.  The migration to the new service on its new domain https://limitlesshost.net was meticulously planned and the changeover to the new server effortless.  cPanel with Softaculous have been set up to work seamlessly with high tech setup as it always has been since Limitless Hosting was started some years ago.  I was able to update my SSL certificate with great ease.

Most servers in the hosting business claim they are optimized for safety, but I have greater confidence in the security of Limitlesshost.net.  For the very reason that the owner had learned everything he knew about security from the hard knocks of taking care of games servers.  Prior to starting LimitlessHost.net, the owner had done extremely well (still is) with providing free Games Servers in exchange for posts.  He had done that for a while before he had started his business and that was a fantastic learning ground for what is important for speed and security for a server.  Right at the top of LimitlessHost.net there is a special tab for DDos Protection.  I believe that it is not just skin deep (reading that page shows it can’t be) but that the protection means what it says after plenty of experience in the rough world of hosting games servers.

After successfully moving my WordPress site to my LimitlessHost Reseller account, proving that the account was optimized for WordPress, I experimented with creating my first account in WHM.  What I wanted to experiment with is to create an add on domain to my primary account, and then use the add on domain for sub domains for the accounts I was planning to create.  In essence having a separate domain for my Reseller Accounts.  This was another “wow” experience for me as at the point where I created the add on domain the DNS and SSL were instantly created and the domain perfectly set up so I could create subdomains for my reseller accounts.  A further nice surprise was that the DNS propagated almost immediately after I had changed the Name Servers at the Domain Registrar.  Before I created the account I had created a package and that had been seamless too.  So when I created a new account in my Reseller Package all I needed basically was to include all of the details with the name of the package.  For the domain all I needed was to put in a sub-domain that corresponded with the account name.  The sub-domain was instantly set up.  Mission very easily accomplished!

Creating an add on domain to work with new accounts and creating the new accounts were a breeze!

LimitlessHost – WordPress Optimized

One of the claims in the presentation of its hosting is that it is WordPress Optimized and I can vouch for that.  First thing I did when I started to work with the package was to set up this WordPress blog on my reseller account.  What I wanted to do was to import an existing WordPress site that I had to back up and store when HostMada had closed its services.  This would be an excellent test to see how the Reseller Package would work with a WordPress site.  It worked beautifully.

First part was to install the WordPress script from Softaculous and that was done well under five minutes.  I then downloaded the Duplicator Plugin which is the WordPress plugin that is used to transport Websites.  That went easy too.  Next was to upload the Installer and Backup zipped files and I did this effortlessly with the cPanel File Manager.  Duplicator Plugin is a great test in the sense that it asks for special server settings in order for the backup and unzipping of folders and files to work.  The Reseller Package worked perfect with the plugin.  Before I knew it I had the Installer Page up, unzipped and loaded the backup and I had my WordPress site up and running exactly as it was before I had to close it a month ago.  Proof that Limitlesshost Reseller Package is optimised for use with WordPress!

When I checked out the Host’s Website – Limitlesshost.net – I was quite impressed with the professional “no frills” look of the Website.  At first glance it appeared that the business had locations both in the US (West Coast) and Europe.  The business is young – started in 2015 – and covers a wide range of cPanel shared hosting and VPSs, the specs of which are focused on limitless generous.  Usually I’m quite cynical when I see the reference limitless, but one soon discovers the Website is not just a “pretty face” and that the quality of the hosting can easily compare with the big players like Siteground and Inmotion.

Reseller Hosting is a new and recent addition to LimitlessHost’s business with the offer of three Reseller Plans:  Small (10 GB SSD – 1 TB Bandwidth – 2 US$/m), Medium (30 GB SSD – 10 TB Bandwidth – 5 US$/m) and Large (60 GB SSD – 20 TB Bandwidth – 10 US$/m).  The owner provided me with a Medium/Large combo Reseller Package to review – the specs of the Reseller test package are the following:

  • 40 GB SSD
  • 10 TB Bandwidth
  • Unlimited cPanel Accounts
  • Overselling Enabled
  • Full WHM and cPanel with Softaculous for all accounts

The location of the package is in Los Angeles which is a bit slow in comparison with my FreeVPS.us VPS as my ISP is located very far from the LA hub.  So if someone should subscribe to an account hopefully they will have a choice of an account in Europe.  As far as I know the Reseller Packages are only available in LA for now.  The lack in speed is however amply compensated by the efficiency of the system.  Whoever set up the server has set it up for maximum performance of the five star variety.  The only time when I feel the lack of speed is when I work with my WordPress Dashboard.  I’d imagine for someone living close to the LA Hub that the speed would be amazing, particularly considering that the server has latest technology like SSD, PHP7, CDN and more to make websites load super fast.

Setup and support of my account were fast, flawless and excellent.  It started with registration and the submission of a ticket.  Both worked instantly and before I knew it I had all of the login details for the WHM and cPanel of the Reseller Account.  One thing I learned immediately was that the owner cares about his product and that there was someone behind the business who is making every effort that he puts into the business his 100% effort.  I would be very surprised if someone would wait longer than an hour tops for a ticket to be answered.  Mine was answered and processed within minutes.

I found the WHM very easy to navigate and could see that it was set up with maximum security in mind.  For example I did not have Shell access, which I was happy about, as that is an automatic sign that the server has been set up to be secure.  Another great surprise was that my domain and or any domain I would add or park on my account has been set up to generate immediate self-signed certificates.  Gone are the days of worrying about people who had to deal with security warnings when they open my Websites.  During my initial exploration of WHM I noticed that everything that is needed is there, and not more than that.  The missing parts made good sense for security.  I may make inquiries later however about Configserver, a great Firewall and IP manager.  One of its features I like to use is to block and unblock IPs.

Tribute to Serverlux.net

Serverlux.net, a very generous cpanel free shared hosting host came to an end during August 2017.  I had been introduced to the service for the first time by Lampard at FreeVPS.club.  The hosting service is German, however had a translated English version of its Website.  The free hosting package provided huge specs that included the following:

  • 8GB Storage,
  • 8 MySQL Databases
  • 8 FTP Accounts
  • 8 IMAP/Mail Accounts

also:

  • unlimited bandwith
  • unlimited Addon Domains
  • free Subdomain (freelux.me,s3rv.me,serverlux.me)
  • CPanel Webinterface

It was one of my favourite free hosting packages particularly because the speed was great.  For some or other reason my ISP deals very well with IPs that are in Germany.  The cPanel service was also excellent.  I was really very sad when notification was received of its closure in August 2017.  I lost two great free hosting accounts in one month:  HostMada and Serverlux.

HostMada

HostMada came recommended via the Free Resources Forum of FreeVPS.us.  This hosting service provides free and cheap shared hosting with a genuine up to date cPanel.  One of the rare free hosting services who have an up to date cPanel service.  Setting up this blog was a breeze with HostMada as I was able to create a WordPress from scratch with the Softaculous installer that is provided in Hostmada cPanel.  All of it went fast and effortless, like no need for creating a MySQL database first.  The installer does all of that for one, including providing advanced options for having the WordPress script, themes and plugins automatically updated.

I measure the speed with which I’m able to work with WordPress with how fast the plugins and themes are uploaded, installed and activated, and speed is really good.  Like there is little hesitation in the performance of the processes.  I’m still to test how my Duplicator Plugin works with making a backup of the WordPress site and migrating it, I’ll record this experience later.

Customer service is excellent.  For now the owner, Andreas, seems to be performing the bulk of the support work, but he is currently working on adding staff.  Wish him good luck with this venture as the addition of really good staff can make or break a business.

Support for the free hosting is through a Forum that has a very fast turnaround.  For example I needed to change my primary domain and that was resolved within minutes.

What particularly impressed me about the Website is its very attractive and professional design.  Forum script is Xenforo, and a new experience for me.  Works very well with the hosting service.

Note:  The Duplicator Plugin was indeed a great test of the configuration of the free hosting site and particularly cPanel.  When I first tried to create a Duplicator Backup Package in my WordPress site, Duplicator failed to create the package.  No doubt due to the setting for the maximum time that is allowed for processes to be completed.  In any event, this provided me with an excellent opportunity to see how php has been configured by HostMada and I only have praise for it.  I was able to select the version of PHP, which I lowered from 5.6 to 5.4.  I then went into PHP options and modified the Maximum Process Time, with no problem.  Package was successfully created, and I’m a very happy customer.  This is definitely recommended free hosting.

Note:  Regrettably HostMada had to close its service in August 2016.  It however continued to provide its excellent service right up to the point of closing.

 

 

GigaRocket.net

GigaRocket has been around for many years in different shapes and forms.  It started back in 2006 as StoneRocket.net.  StoneRocket was a very active post2host shared hosting business from 2006 until 2012 when demand for shared hosting started to decline.  The owner then started a new hosting business FreeFTPSpace.net in 2013 and six months after sold both StoneRocket and FreeFTPSpace to Frihost.com.  GigaRocket started as Gigalicious.net in May 2014, then went through a name change in 2015 to Gigarank.net.  During 2017 the name was changed again to GigaRocket.net.

GigaRocket is a very solid post2host forum with the objective of providing hosting accounts to first time Web business owners. One needs to make a one-off 10 quality posts for a hosting account with no further posts needed to keep the hosting account.  GigaRocket also offers post2host VPSs for 25 quality posts, however need to make 20 monthly posts to keep the VPSs.  Quality of hosting is excellent.  The owner uses an excellent server with location in France.  Speed is great.  WHM and cPanel is state of the art with all of the scripts offered with a Softaculous Installer.

Frihost.com/StoneRocket/FFS

Frihost is one of the oldest post2host forums that I know off.  It has been around since April 2005.  At its helm is Bondings, a Belgian IT specialist who spent almost all of his free hours as a student to create, program and build Frihost.com.  No one knows who Bondings is, but the Forum at the time when he was actively involved was one of the most active post2host forums.  Bondings used php2 to build the Forum, and then programmed it completely to his own specifications.  I’ve only really had the opportunity to get a view of the inside of his Forum when I was made staff at Frihost in February 2015 and could only marvel at his handiwork.  Bondings’ goal at the time was to build a community site that provides free shared hosting accounts to Website beginners.  His plan was to get the Forum to look after itself eventually so that his presence would no longer be needed.

Frihost did fantastic from 2005 to 2012 when post to host free shared hosting accounts were in great demand.  Demand started to decline after 2012 and one by one the Admin and Mods of Frihost departed while registrations were declining as well.  Frihost is a shadow of its former active self, but still very much a going concern.  Bondings is keeping all of his Frihost domains alive and is using  high quality servers in Germany to host the accounts.  There are presently two Mods (myself included) who are looking after the Forum with some assistance in the background by an Administrator in England.  We haven’t seen Bondings in a very long time, but for everything that matters he is still keeping the servers alive.  Speed is great.  And those who have shared hosting accounts are generally happy with the service.

In order to get an account one needs to register with the Forum and make five quality posts.  One can then apply for a hosting account through an account panel that was created by Bondings.  If successful and the account has been given the expectation is that the member has to make future posts in order to keep the hosting.  Here are the specs of the free shared hosting accounts that are on offer at Frihost:

In 2013 Bondings acquired StoneRocket.net and FreeFTPSpace.org from a friend in the same business.  They had known off one another since 2005 when both started their free hosting businesses.  StoneRocket was a thriving post2host business from 2006 to 2013.  Bondings had plans to reactivate the hosting account and forum part of the business, but in January 2013 his career took off and StoneRocket free hosting got mothballed on a semi-permanent basis.  FreeFTPspace.org however continued to exist.  It is also still active, however on a much smaller scale than Frihost.  Size of the hosting accounts at FreeFTPSpace are exactly the same as for Frihost, however members need to make 15 quality posts in order to get a hosting account.
